Still Cranky

It occurs to me that if I got more sleep I might be less cranky. But until Princess H learns that there are other people who can get her a drink in the middle of the night, and until the insomnia passes, I'm afraid we're stuck with cranky mommy. Cranky mommy is not a fun mommy. Cranky mommy does not take H to the toy store, or jumping jacks, or anything remotely fun. Cranky mommy wishes the sippy fairy hadn't taken the sippys so she could just stop the noisy cryhole for 5 minutes.

I wish cranky mommy would go away. Of course, I wish temper tantrum toddler would go with her.

Cranky Old Man

Sometimes I feel like a cranky old man. When I was a kid, we didn't have fancy DVD players and TIVO, so it's hard for me not to feel cranky when Princess H wants me to pause shows, back shows up, and do it now. Right now we're watching The Sound of Music, and this is what I hear: "Mommy, go to where the kids get scared." "Mommy, go the the puppets." "Mommy, go to the part where they go like this and walk."

This has been going on for 2 days! And since I got a whopping 3 1/2 hours of sleep last night, and my blood pressure seems dangerously low, I really feel like catering to a 3 year-old who wants the Sound of Music at 7:00 in the morning. Lousy kids.

I must go. Sixteen Going On Seventeen sounds like it's winding down and I'll need to skip to My Favorite Things.

Stuff

So, I'm almost done cleaning up from the Super Bowl. It was a fun party, but not so wild and crazy that it should have taken two weeks to clean up from. I'm just too lazy to take the card table and chairs down stairs. And I'm not sure what to do with the leftover chips.

I thought I was all cleaned up from Christmas, til I discovered that the doormat of our home says "Happy Holidays!" Plus there's the whole light up candy canes and snowmans in the yard. And they need to come inside, because a roving band of teenage delinquents is roaming around busting up light up candy canes. Those cost $1.50 at Wal-Mart you jerks!

I'm kind of malaisey today. Yes, I know that's not a word. I have school board meeting, and my laptop has conked out so I have to use a pencil and paper to take notes. And I have to remember to leave by 5:00 because it's now in Springville instead of Spanish Fork.

My Fault

My SIL went into super early labor this week so I've been spending a lot of time trying to help her with her kids. All to no avail--she had the baby last night! 6 weeks early! The baby is in the NICU, but I can't help but feel responsible. If I wasn't planning a trip to Bear Lake she would be fine. Last time I planned a winter trip to Bear Lake my Mom died. I really hope Kris and the baby will be okay.

Musings on Miss America

Is it just me, or did Miss Indiana look like she had been attacked backstage by the ugly stepsisters and there was no time for her fairy godmother to appear before she had to compete in the evening gown competition?

And wouldn't it be refreshing if one of the contestants sang a Metallica song instead of something from a musical? We'd all rather hear Enter Sandman than anything from The Wiz.

And if Miss America is supposed to be a role model, shouldn't there be some guidelines on the amount of skin showing? During the swimsuit competition we almost expected to see a few of the contestants start swinging on a pole.

I'm just saying if pageant officials are really interested in changing public perception of Miss America, they might start by ruling that necklines should be higher than the belly button.

Another Culinary Disaster

My poor family. Lately, any attempt I make at preparing food seems doomed to failure from the beginning. I made meatloaf and forgot the start the timer. I entered the correct amount of time, I just didn't push start. And that it how we ended up with super dry meatloaf. I attempted to make peas and potato soup, which is basically peas and potatoes in a white sauce. Worst white sauce ever! Even Princess H refused to eat it. The failure may have been due to my use of low-fat butter, but it was a dreadful night.

Last night I made a pumpkin pie. Brent loves pumpkin pie. He wanted to eat some of it last night, but I said he had to wait until Sunday night because we can't show up to a Fake Thanksgiving dinner with a pumpkin pie missing a slice or three. It looked good. My dad had given me a crust, so we know the crust was good. So what's the disaster, you might ask? I got distracted watching the tivoed Lost premiere and forgot to put the pie in the fridge after it cooled down. I found it this morning, sitting on the counter, mocking me. My plan is to make a replacement pie before Brent gets up. I have time. It's only 10:52am.

Movies I Can't Stand

Old Yeller

Air Bud and all the sequels

Beethoven

Incredible Journey

Milo & Otis

(Are we seeing a pattern? Animal movies, particularly dog movies. I hate dog movies.)

Peter Pan

Finding Nemo

pretty much anything with Robin Williams in it

Sounder

Cast Away and most anything else with Tom Hanks in it, with the exception of You've Got Mail and Forrest Gump. Seriously hated the Da Vinci Code. We'll have to see if he can ruin Angels and Demons as well.

Camp Rock and anything else Demi Lovato ever makes

Babes in Toyland

Davy Crockett--I don't care if he is the king of the wild frontier.

Big Red--dog movie

Where The Red Fern Grows-again, a dog movie

Darby O'Gill and the Little People

Return To Oz

Muppets Wizard of Oz

Newsies

Most of these came from the list of 1,282 results that came up when I looked at the Disney Family Friendly movies on Amazon.com. And some others I just thought of while making the list.
